Professional

I've been with Informix almost 5 years now, focusing exclusively on the Informix engines - IDS (v7+), XPS (v8+).

I teach the following classes most often:

IDS Internal Architecture
IDS/XPS Perf Tuning
IDS/XPS Sys Admin
Managing/Optimizing
Custom Classes/Tuning
IDS/XPS Masters Series Workshops

Other areas I've contributed to are:

Informix Dynamic Server CBT's - I didn't build them, but initially instructed the company that did in both Sys Admin and Managing & Optimizing
Frequent speaker on engine-related topics at the Informix Worldwide User Conference (IWUC)
Contributing author to "The Informix Handbook" by Ron Flannery (www.informixhandbook.com)

Other Professional Experience:

I've worked for companies such as Du Pont (Network/Systems Manager), EDS/GM (Factory Floor Automation), Ingres (SE), Unify (consultant). Graduated from Ball State University - 1985, BS in Computer Science.

I've also been teaching technical topics since 1982. I started my own "Computer Education Center" while in college, and taught kids through adults anything and everything about computers. Believe it or not, I used TRS-80's! I continued teaching after graduation at night school or vocational colleges in the area I worked. SO I've been fortunate to merge my "day-jobs" with my love for teaching ... and here I am. It's a great opportunity for me to share real-life experiences with the classroom.

Personal

I am a single father of 4 wonderful kids, ages 14 -20,  and all as individual as they can be. (I think they get it honestly from dad?)  That would be 3 boys, and the youngest a girl. Goto My Kids for more on my gang...

My personal interests include:

my kids - I spend a great deal of time taking them to concerts, attending their sporting events, and being a part of each one of their unique lives.
my music - I've been playing the piano and singing for nearly 25 years now. I spend a great deal of time composing, or scoring original music. Musical interests range from contemporary Christian (Wayne Watson, Rich Mullins) to alternative (Live, Alice in Chains, Creed, Korn). I'm also a huge Tony Bennett fan, and was raised on Elton John.
sports - I'm heavily into windsurfing, racquetball, and road biking. Yes - we do windsurf in Colorado. I venture to places like Aruba or Baja when I can, otherwise, we sit and wait for storms in Colorado.
outdoors - I love to camp spring/summer/fall.
